Chimpanzee in Nyungwe Forest

Day 1: Leave Kigali –Nyungwe Forest National Park (Travel Time +6hrs)

07:00 Early morning departure for Nyungwe national park in the South-western region of Rwanda. en-route we pass through the Cultural heritage Corridor stopping  at King Mutara III Rudahigwa’s 1931 royal palace museum, standing today as it was many decades ago with the ‘Inyambo’, traditional Rwandan cows known for their impressive long horns. Arriving One & Only Nyungwe House for your lunch take a great outdoors activitity to visit the tea plantaions of Gisakura.

Allow our motivating guide to lead you on a kinetic workout through the leafy tracks surrounding the tea plantation. The natural landscape is the only equipment you’ll need for this jungle-style boot camp. Take an experience of tea from crop to cup tea.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trek & Canopy Walk Experience

Today at 05h00 you will get your packed breakfast and  drive to the park headquarters for chimpanzee trek briefing and formalities and then to the evergreen forest for a great experience that starts at 06h00. You may spot a wide variety of bird life.  Dashing at high speed through the flora, hooting and clanging – it’s a truly exhilarating experience to encounter chimpanzees playing, wild and free.

Home to one of East Africa’s last intact chimpanzee populations, Nyungwe is an ideal place to observe chimps in their natural habitat. Most active in the morning, an early rise is required for maximum viewing opportunity, and a beautifully prepared breakfast will be enjoyed ‘on the go’. Allow experienced, expert trackers to guide you on a deep forest trail, learning about these fascinating creatures and the enchanting forest they call home.

Return to the lodge at around 11h00. 12h30:  Have an early lunch.  We will transfer you to the park headquarters for canopy walk briefing that takes place at 14h00.  Your guided canopy walk will start at 15h00.  Experience the rainforest from a dazzling new perspective – on the famous Canopy Walkway.

The only walk of its kind in East Africa, this breathtaking construction hangs 60 metres above the forest floor between giant trees and towers, revealing a stunning view of the flora and fauna, both below and above. An iconic experience, not to be missed! Return to the lodge later in the evening.

Day 3: Colobus Monkey Trek in Nyungwe

Breakfast at the lodge, transfer to the park headquarter for briefing at 07h00 before your start your colobus monkey walk at 08h00.

Black & White Colobus Monkeys -Nyungwe Forests

These are black with white ornaments and in case you observe them with in the forest as you track them, you will be amazed how large the group is, these are over 350 to 400 individuals in a group comprising the largest group of the Angolan Colobus Monkeys in Africa. The trek of these monkeys is not as tireless as the chimpanzee trek tends to be and the pure number of them with in the tree tops, the chat of this group delights the guests including their messy eating habits that also help spread the seed of the fruit that they are eating in the forest.

This afternoon enjoy the complimentary activities offered at the Lodge, i.e spear throwing, cycling, natures boot camp, nature walks etc This evening you will have a traditional tea ceremony at the lodge. Day 4: Nyungwe Forest –Kigali Out (Drive time +5hrs)

An early morning by 08:00 be transferred and return to Kigali with a long drive arriving in the afternoon with lunch in Kigali at either Filini restraint or Pili Pili Retardant, time permitting you can check on the Genocide memorial center in Gisozi before your drop-off at the airport for your outbound flight.
