Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda is one of the oldest rain forests in Africa, The famous Chimpanzee Park in Rwanda is abundantly blessed with rich in biodiversity that one cannot find not only in Rwanda but even elsewhere in East Africa.

Nyungwe Forest National park is believed to be the heart of Rwanda’s wildlife, including a small population of unique chimpanzees as well as 12 other species of primate, including the L’Hoest’s monkey endemic to the Albertine Rift and spectacularly beautiful bird species.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is a birding paradise in Rwanda. Visitors whose sole interest is to do bird watching, Nyungwe is blessed with 322 bird species including Red-collared Babbler and 29 other Albertine Rift Endemic species. Butterflies are also a common sight, with at least 120 species. Get wrapped up with a mesmerising trail through the forest floor as bird song accompanies your every step, and your expert guide identifies birds by ear alone, from the elusive Rwenzori Turaco to the Grey-Chested Kakamega.

In Nyungwe is an array of over 75 known mammals including the, Congo clawless otter, Cerval cat, mongoose and leopard among others. These are rare to be sighted in this thick jungles of Nyungwe.

You can jump on Umugote Trail this has moderate inclines, with wondrous views of numerous stunning ridges, as far as the mountains of Kibira National Park in Burundi, Monkeys and birds can be spotted from this trail, along with tree frogs and swirls of brightly coloured butterflies

One can take on the famous Isumo’ trail to the biggest waterfall in Nyungwe Forests, thundering down to produce beautiful plumes of mist above the rocky river, surrounded by ferns. The Isumo trail remains the best offering views across to Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
