A journey along the Umogote trail is best in dry season and so are other hikes in Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes gorilla park, since conditions tend to be dry underfoot and the odds of being drenched by a shower is as low as it gets in a rainforest. June to August is the best time to explore Nyungwe Forest National Park, Volcanoes National Park and Akagera National Park.

Rwanda is indeed a remarkable destination for tracking gorillas and chimpanzees in Africa. Plenty of tourists do track gorillas all year round. Nyungwe forest remains one of East Africa’s most important biodiversity hotspots, visitors to track a habituated group of chimpanzees and hike to East Africa’s only suspended canopy walkway. A dozen other primate species are present, while a checklist of 310 bird species includes 27 Albertine Rift Endemics and numerous other rarities.

In Uganda the neighboring country well known as the Pearl of Africa holds Kibale Forest National Park that shares the same wildlife genes as Nyungwe forest believed to hold the highest Chimpanzee population in Africa.
