The location of Nyungwe Forest lies in southwest Rwanda, partly abutting the Burundi border. It’s a vast area of mountain rainforest, home to many species of chimpanzees, plus owl-faced and Colobus monkeys.

One can further describe the location of Nyungwe Forest as a +5hrs drive from Kigali City in the southern province of Rwanda. Nyungwe is also famous of its Canopy Walkway, part of the Igishigishigi Trail, is a high suspension bridge with views over the valley and surrounding forests. A trail runs to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, with its birdlife, orchids and waterfall.

The size of Nyungwe Forest covers an area of approximately 970 km2 of rainforest, bamboo, grassland, swamps, and bogs. The nearest town is Cyangugu, 54 km to the west.

In Nyungwe is an array of over 75 known mammals including the, Congo clawless otter, Cerval cat, mongoose and leopard among others. These are rare to be sighted in this thick jungles of Nyungwe.
