Isumo waterfall is one of the most beautiful falls in Nyungwe Forests approximately 5-hours drive from Kigali the capital of Rwanda. Isumo is the local name which means waterfall and is situated approximately 17 meters high above the sea-level enhancing a very stunning experience and encounter while watching the birds in the air, butterfly, and other numerous primates enjoying their habitat.

Isumo waterfall trail is approximately 10.6 kilometers long which last over four hours closely with tea plantation and lush green vegetation. Isumo trail offers you en-route flora and fauna species you can observe while moving such as primates (Vervet monkeys and the Angola black and white colobus monkeys), bird species, and butterfly, and among others.

The walking trail to Isumo waterfall is such a breathtaking and hikers encounter tree ferns that are very beautiful to marvel at besides offering chances of spotting exceptional bird species such as the Rwenzori Turaco which is amazing to see. You will have the enjoy full time from two main vantage points depending on which you may prefer to go with when you’re here, one may opt to take the short walk which leads to a picnic bench overlooking the fall at 50 meters distance which is an amazing and rewarding experience to take while here. Isumo waterfalls can be reached by descending to the wild river below and then clambering over wet rocks to a large boulder in the middle of the amphitheater. This where you will be thrillingly close to the bottom of the fall which gives you an astonishing view of the flowing river rushing toward Lake Kivu

In order to spot and enjoy beautiful encounters around the Isumo Falls, you are required to take a hike which starts at the beautiful Nyungwe Forest Lodge then proceed through stunning green tea fields and grassy borders maintained by goats as well as wildflowers and butterflies. While on the way, you will have magnificent views of Lake Kivu in the North West as well as the DRC and there is also a mist that covers the bench permanently wet making the whole place very tremendous to spot and enjoy.
