Tall trees of Nyungwe Forest National Park covers a total expanse of about 970 sq. km and has an elevation of 1600-2950m above sea level. This is the only place in the country having over 300 colobus monkeys living within its tall trees of Nyungwe forest.

Exploring the tall trees of Nyungwe Forest in Rwanda is very remarkable. Nyungwe forest is known as the largest remaining montane rainforest in East Africa and also one of the most biodiverse that contains large and tall trees of different tree species given its existence for so many years, and it supports 13 primate species and many rare forest bird species. Some of the tree species that can be found in Nyungwe includes prinaria exelsium, cyathea manniana, carapa, newtonia, orchids, mosses, ferns, podocarpus to mention a few. For researchers, this is the best place to go.

Besides tall trees in Nyungwe forest, the Park is rich in terms of birdlife with excellent opportunities to see a variety of fascinating bird species some of them being endemic to the Albertine rift region hosting around 310 bird species. Besides these visitors are open to a broad network of trails that take you to the waterfalls and various viewpoints. You will certainly enjoy breathtaking views over this beautiful forest, as well as enjoying the culture of people who stay adjacent to this forest, and the stunning Lake Kivu and occasionally the Virunga.

An exciting canopy walk high up in the air gives you the best shot to tall trees in Nyungwe forest. This is the only one of its kind in Africa, built at an impressive 50m above the forest the Nyungwe canopy walk is not for the faint-hearted. If you are afraid of heights you might want to get rid of the phobia before you travel because such a splendid sight should be seen by everyone.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is found in the South-Western part of Rwanda. It is bordered by the Rwanda-Burundi border in the South. Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of Congo lie on the west side of the park. And the world in one country Rwanda with Volcanoes National Park in the northwest home to the biggest primates -Mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys.
